DIVE THE MARY ROSE 4D

Having been commissioned by the Mary Rose Trust to create the 1545 Experience imagining the sinking of the Mary Rose, we were delighted to return and tell the untold story of the finding, recovery and excavation of Henry VIII’s favourite ship. Dive the Mary Rose 4D is housed in a new state-of-the-art 4D theatre and features a combination of archive footage and CGI, as well as multi-sensory features including sounds, smells, bubbles, wind and movement.

The experience begins as Ross Kemp narrates the story of how Alexander McKee, Margaret Rule and a team of volunteer divers worked tirelessly to discover the location of this infamous lost treasure. Upon entering the 4D theatre and placing on your 3D glasses, guests can sit back and really experience what it was like to dive the Mary Rose. Plunged into the depths of the Solent, guests join the divers as they discover the first timbers, excavate the 34m long shipwreck, recover her countless treasures and return the Mary Rose to the surface for the first time in 477 years.

To deliver this fully immersive experience Figment carefully modelled and recreated significant parts of the Mary Rose in CGI. We had the privilege to have access to many hours of previously unseen footage, as well as working closely with some of the original divers, to ensure the historical accuracy of our story. Figment was responsible for designing the complete experience, which included the physical transformation of the existing spaces, AV design, all content creation including scriptwriting & filming, software installation and final show programming.

Dive the Mary Rose 4D is included as part of entry to the Mary Rose Experience. To book tickets, visit the Mary Rose website.
