For the new Minifigure Skyflyer attraction at LEGOLAND New York, Figment were asked to help keep guests entertained while waiting to get on an immersive Party Pod. As part of a drive to become more energy conscious, Energy Floors were commissioned to provide a kinetic dancefloor. This system uses a configuration of floor tiles which generate electricity as guests step on them. Our first task was simple – to make the media content to get everyone dancing – kids and adults alike! Collaborating with the Merlin Magic Making team, we decided on the best Minifigures to use to show off some new dance moves, while Volume One created a lively dance track to get everyone moving. To sync up with the real world, we created a digital disco stage and filled it with everyone’s favourite Minifigures to bring all the fun and colour associated with LEGO.

The second key element of the dance floor media was creating software which could take the data from the kinetic dance floor and convert it into a real-time visualisation of how much electricity the guests dance moves were generating. Not only do families have the challenge of keeping up with the Disco Diva’s stylish dance moves, but they get the feel-good factor of knowing their energy gets directly converted into powering the batteries of the ride. Everybody wins!
